Denver Mindfulness Group

Learn practical tools to increase presence, focus, and emotional clarity.

Building Capacity to Live in the Present

Mindfulness involves strengthening the capacity to pay attention, non-judgmentally, to the present moment. It helps you live in the “now” and increase your awareness of your internal and external environments.

In a culture constantly advertising the next best thing, where device reliance and multitasking are standard, taking time to slow down can seem anachronistic. Since mindfulness is the opposite of being on autopilot, developing a regular practice can disrupt unhealthy habits and provide a reliable counterweight to an overstimulating world.

At Denver DBT and Psychotherapy, our ongoing Mindfulness Group is a dedicated space to develop this skill. By combining Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), DBT’s mindfulness training, and Insight-Oriented meditation techniques, we help participants slow down to find more contentment and joy in their daily endeavors and live life in a less distracted, more fulfilling way.

Join Our Mindfulness Group

Our group is ongoing, meaning participants may join at any time as long as there is an opening. Reach out to our intake coordinator, Carrie Simpson, M.A., to check availability and see if this group aligns with your goals.

Benefits of a Mindfulness Practice

Clinical research and experience demonstrate that shifting from automatic behaviors to purposeful habits yields concrete shifts in overall well-being. Changes may include, but are not limited to:
  • Increased relaxation and decreased stress
  • Improved focus and attention
  • Better sleep quality
  • Decreased anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms
  • Improved immune system functioning
  • Clarity around long-standing behavioral and thought patterns

Through participating in our group and regular practice, our clients report a greater sense of ease and well-being, increased insight and greater life satisfaction.

What to Expect in Our Mindfulness Group

Weekly 90-Minute Sessions

Our group meets once per week for an hour and a half. During this time, you will work in a supportive environment learning evidence-based mindfulness techniques and theories, including MBSR, insight meditation and DBT mindfulness practices.

Build a Daily Practice

Our group equips you with the tools and knowledge necessary to change your habitual patterns. Because consistency supports growth, group members are encouraged to adopt, maintain, and deepen an individual daily mindfulness practice outside of our weekly sessions.

Extended "Mini-Retreats"

Once every few months, we offer an extended four-hour group session. This longer format provides the opportunity to deepen your mindfulness practice and experience a retreat from your daily routine.

“This is the real power and freedom of mindfulness: that we develop this capacity to recognize what’s happening and allow it, let it be.”

― Tara Brach Ph.D.

Guided by Personal Practice and Clinical Training

Dr. Nikki Kraslin, a clinical psychologist who has received intensive training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), leads this group. Dr. Kraslin also completed a two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program through the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley. Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach—internationally renowned meditation instructors who both hold doctorates in clinical psychology—co-led this training.

Dr. Kraslin has been a dedicated practitioner of Insight Meditation since 2008, maintaining a daily meditation practice and attending yearly, week-long silent meditation retreats. She brings this personal dedication and doctoral-level clinical expertise to group sessions, ensuring you receive guidance that is rooted in clinical and personal experience.

FAQs:

No. Our mindfulness group is open to everyone, regardless of background or previous experience. Whether you have never meditated before or you want a community to help deepen an existing daily practice, our groups focus on creating an environment where you will find practical, actionable guidance while deepening your understanding of mindfulness theory and its application to daily life.
While both groups incorporate mindfulness (as it is one of the four modules of DBT), they have different structures and clinical goals. A DBT skills group follows a set curriculum focused on acquiring specific behavioral tools for distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The Mindfulness Group focuses on deepening your capacity for present-moment awareness, stress reduction, and insight-oriented meditation while helping you understand mindfulness philosophy and how it helps you grow, change and develop more freedom in life.

Because this is an ongoing group, new members are welcome to join at any time, provided we have an opening. The first step is to schedule a phone consultation with our intake coordinator. She will answer logistical questions and ensure this group aligns with your current goals. You can find the current schedule on our Availability and Fees page.
